2. Investigation of breaking dynamics Characteristic project’s elements

The viaduct was built without any access from below, with cantilevered construction phases starting from both ends and finishing at the center. The structure features a central span approximately 100 meters long and two side spans, each approximately 20 meters long. (Fig.2).

The cantilever structure was constructed for the central span after the side spans had been built using in-situ casting. The interaction between the central span and the side spans generates uplift reactions at both ends, under all loading conditions. Furthermore, stress distribution is strongly influenced by the two end reactions, resulting in a significant reduction in the bending moment of the central span. The loss of this restraint led to a radical change in the stress state, and the stability of the structure under reversible loading conditions could not be guaranteed. The failure of the support cables that provided the restraint for the abutment viaduct was evident as a result of severe corrosion of the unprotected cables (fig.3).
