The ultimate flatwise compressive strength of the material can be calculated by following formula: = (2) where is ultimate flatwise compressive strength in MPa, is maximum force before the failure in N, and is the cross-sectional area of specimens in mm 2 . The experimental results for each specimen can be seen in Table 4. The average ultimate flatwise strength can be calculated as 6.7 MPa.

3.3 Core Flatwise Compression Test Airex C70.75 PVC foam was chosen as the core material in this study. The behaviour of the foam was also previously tested by applying core flatwise compression test method (Toygar et al., 2019). Three specimens of the foam were tested according to ASTM C365/ C365M – 11. 0.5 mm/min was chosen as the test speed. The test set-up can be seen in Figure 4. The ultimate flatwise compressive strength of the material was calculated as 1.45 MPa by Formula 2. The experimental ultimate flatwise compressive strength is in good agreement with the provided technical data from Airex.
