3.4 Sandwich Edgewise Compression Test Sandwich edgewise compression testing procedure has been completed according to ASTM C364/C364M. Three specimens have been tested in order to observe the failure behaviour of the sandwich composite and to obtain ultimate flatwise compressive strength of the material. The dimensions of test specimens are presented in Figure 5.

Dimensions of edgewise compression test specimen Ultimate edgewise compressive strength z in MPa can be calculated by: = [ ( 1 + 2 )] (3) where represents the maximum force before the failure in N and is the width of the specimen in mm. 1 and 2 are thicknesses of facesheets in mm, respectively. According to the calculations, the average ultimate edgewise compressive strength can be obtained as 302.32 N/mm 2 . The test results of each specimen can be seen in Table 5.
