The ultimate flatwise tensile strength of the material can be calculated by following formula: = (1) where is ultimate flatwise tensile strength in MPa, is maximum force before the failure in N, and is the cross-sectional area of specimens in mm 2 . The experimental results for each specimen can be seen in Table 3. The average ultimate flatwise tensile strength can be calculated as 1.71 MPa.

3.2 Sandwich Flatwise Compression Test The failure behaviour of the novel sandwich under compression loading has been observed experimentally. Each specimen was centered under the loading plate to ensure a uniform load distribution during the experiments. ASTM C365/C365M – 11 standards have been followed during the sandwich flatwise compression test procedure. The test speed was chosen as 0.5 mm/min according to the ASTM standards. Three specimens have been tested. The dimensions of each specimen and the loading set-up can be seen in Figure 3 (a) and Figure 3 (b), respectively.
