Next, the collected contours for all cases obtained for the considered impact energies within a given impactor group were centered with respect to the origin, and the generic shapes of BVID were determined for each type of the considered impactor (see details in (Katunin et al., 2021)). Based on the obtained generic shapes of BVID, the generic CAD parametric models were developed. The exemplary parametric CAD model of the generic delamination is presented in Fig. 6.

The geometry of the resulting generic shapes of BVID was imported to the CATIA V5 integrated CAx commercial system to the previously prepared model of a composite specimen with the dimensions of 100×100×2.5 mm, which corresponded to the dimensions of the specimens used in the experimental studies. The generic shapes of delamination at particular interfaces were converted to the extrusions with the depths of 0.01 mm. The models for each considered impactor were parametrized with respect to the impact energy. For this purpose, scaling laws for the extent of BVID were developed and applied to the parametric models. The exemplary result of the performed actions is presented in Fig. 7. A detailed description of the developed methodology and all the algorithms of image processing as well as preparing the numerical simulations can be found in (Katunin et al., 2021).
