A slotted-in aluminum plate timber connection test was performed on wood joints with aluminum plates using steel dowel material and DWFAT to determine the load-carrying capacity and ductility values. The aluminum plate's dimensions (width and thickness) have been determined according to the Canadian standard CSA-S157-17 to avoid premature failure by net tension. The steel dowel specimen demonstrated a higher ultimate load-carrying capacity and ductility value than DWFAT in the Slotted-in Aluminum Plate Timber Connection test, as depicted in Figure 10. The failure mode observed in this test, as shown in Figure 11, was primarily due to the plastic deformation of the dowel joint that held the aluminum plate with the wood.

5. Concluding remarks Superhydrophobic treatment with methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) effectively isolates wood from direct contact with water and increases the mechanical strength of wood. The transparent coating of fire retardant also shows good results, that the wood can be protected from fire hazards without compromising the wood grain structure's aesthetics and improving the safety and durability of wood materials in maritime applications. In addition, DWFAT dowels for ship structure joints have been proven to increase strength with lighter materials compared to steel dowels. The mechanical properties of DWFAT dowels have good ability in stiffness and ductility. The innovation of wood materials is expected to open up the potential to improve performance and sustainability in the wooden shipbuilding industry to utilize wood resources that are still the choice of traditional fishermen by producing wood material
