strain gauge. The span of the beam is supported on two roller supports, which make the beam simply supported. The testing arrangement is shown in the Fig. 1.

2.2 Dynamic Loading Setup A special steel frame of height 3m is arranged to facilitate the application of impact load. Dynamic load is applied to the steel beam by the impact of 10 kg mass. The mass is allowed to fall from pre determined height. The energy imparted to the steel beam is controlled by varying the height of the fall of the mass. The height of the fall of the mass can be altered through a pulley, the rope of the pulley is controlled manually. The vertical deformation in the steel beam is measured using an LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer). The deflection of the beam is measured at the midpoint of the span. The span of the beam is supported on two roller supports, which make the beam simply supported. The arrangement to apply dynamic load is shown on Fig. 2.
