Drilled Hole

A particular area according to the standard three element strain rosette (as per the FRS-2-23, TML Make) is focused for the strain calculation. The in-plane average strains were determined in directions 0°(X-strain) & 90°(Y-strain) respectively. Fig. 3 shows the virtual strain rosette. The X-direction represents the weld transverse while Y- direction represents the weld longitudinal.
Fig. 3. Schematic of virtual strain rosette.
The acquired images (before and after drilling) were analyzed using Ncorr software. From the analysis point of view in Ncorr software, the larger area of virtual element (size 5mm x 5mm in place of desired area size 1.5mm x 1.3mm) were selected in X & Y directions respectively. After that the average in-plane X & Y directional relaxed strains were calculated as per standard element size i.e. 1.5mm x 1.3mm (as shown in Fig. 3). 3. Results and Discussion The displacement obtained from the Ncorr DIC analysis is shown in Fig. 4. Fig. 4a represents the U displacement and Fig. 4b represents the V displacement. U displacement refers to how much displacement faced by the strain rosette,
