3. Description of the test set-up The specimens, restrained to the laboratory rigid floor and provided with a support that contrasts the horizontal thrust induced by the arch, were loaded with a cyclical non symmetrical vertical load (Fig. 1). The test was conduced under displacement control with incremental displacement cycles until the maximum capacity is reached and exceeded. The vertical displacement history applied by the actuator is showed in the Fig. 2.
