2. Specimen description The geometry of the longitudinal non-load carrying welded joints, in S355 steel grade, is described on Figure 1. The plate thickness is t = 8 mm and the plate width W = 80 mm. The mechanical characteristics of the plates are a yield stress (YS) equal to 436 MPa and an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 574MPa. The welded specimens are made by Nov BLM following the points described hereafter: • Weld depth equal to 4 mm to avoid the undercut on the gusset at the around ends, • Welding sequency adapted to the fact that the welder is right-handed: welding from B to A and from D to C in the ends, • Welding rod: CARBOFIL with protection gas: TERAL 23, to avoid weld splatter.
