The failure load is determined using modified nonlocal criterion derived from the average stress criterion and containing a complex parameter that characterizes the size of the prefracture zone and takes into account not only the material microstructure, but also the plastic properties of the material, the geometry of the specimen, and loading conditions. The calculation results are compared with experimental data. © 2020 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V. Introduction The approaches of continuum mechanics and fracture mechanics have various fields of practical application in the assessment of structural strength. The first approach is used in designing a structure to optimize its shape for the purpose of reducing the stress concentration, and the second approach is used during the operation of the structure for estimating its residual life, taking into account the existence of flaws in the structure, the most dangerous of which are crack-like defects. Therefore, the urgent task is to develop new approaches to strength assessment, which IX Eurasian Symposium on the problems of strength and resource in low climatic temperatures (EURASTRENCOLD-2020) Modelling quasi-brittle fracture initiation at a circular hole under biaxial loading S.V.
