3. Conclusion

In this paper, we presented a preliminary stress assessment of the toroidal coil acting within the DTT facility at the initial instant of the Single Null scenario. In order to run a FEM simulation requiring reasonable computational resources, several simplifying assumptions were introduced for both the geometry and the boundary conditions. The FEM analysis revealed that the most stressed zone of the structure is at half height of the inner leg, where adjacent bodies exert the highest pressure. A stress linearization analysis showed that primary stresses do not exceed the strength limits of the material. Future mandatory 3D analyses with a higher degree of detail will allow confirming the present results, removing most of the adopted simplifications.
