cable. Also it was planned to carry out all the above tests on samples of an indigenously developed cable and an imported cable to compare the performance of both under such load conditions. 4. Cyclic Load Testing of Heavy Cable Cyclic tests on samples of an indigenously developed Heavy Cable and an imported Heavy Cable were planned to simulate the different bending scenarios that cable undergoes during deployment/retrieval cycle of towed array sonar system. The load was decided to be approximately 2 ton (2000 kg), simulating the maximum load acting on the HC during retrieval of TTB at a ship cruise speed of 12 knots. 100 cycles was decided taking into account the maximum no: of deployment retrieval operations during the service life of towed array sonar system. The detailed test plan is given in table 2. The test set-up configuration is shown in fig 3 and fig 4.

Test No:1

Testing of indigenous HC sample for 100 cycles in flexural testing machine with 65 mm diameter roller, 24 deg incoming angle and 2 ton load. Testing of imported HC sample for 100 cycles in flexural testing machine with 65 mm diameter roller, 24 deg incoming angle and 2 ton load. Testing of indigenous HC sample for 100 cycles in flexural testing machine with 290 mm diameter roller and 2 ton load Testing of imported HC sample for 100 cycles in flexural testing machine with 290 mm diameter roller and 2 ton load

4.1. Test Methodology The tests were conducted in two phases and following measurement procedure was followed during each test:-  Electrical and optical continuity checks of all lines in the test sample cable.  Marking of 8 points and along the length of test sample at 1m spacing and number them 1 to 8.
