Failure probability assessment of an elevated tank The analytical assessment of the failure probability of a storage tank from the Eqn.6 is impossible. Several numerical approaches based on numerical approximations are proposed in the literature [8] such as Monte Carlo method, First Order Reliability Method (FORM) and the Second Order Reliability Method (SORM). In this work, Monte Carlo simulation is used to estimate the failure probability P f for its simplicity, and because it is considered as the more robust approach for the evaluation of the failure probability .The principle of this method is based on the generation of a large number of random samples noted N Sim . In this work, the pseudo-random number generator of Matlab ® [32]software is used.
