RVE of hard/hard composite “40CrNiMo/40CrNiMo/40CrNiMo” Fig. 2 presents the results of CP simulations for the RVE of hard/hard composite “40CrNiMo/40CrNiMo/40CrNiMo” through various parameter maps: a) a crystal morphology; b) magnitude of ത (tensor trace); c) von Mises equivalent stress ( ); d) von Mises equivalent strain ( ); e) plastic shear magnitude ( , Euclidean norm of the vector); f) critical resolved share stress magnitude ( , Euclidean norm of the vector); g) elastic deformation gradient magnitude ( , tensor trace); and h) magnitude of the plastic deformation gradient ( , tensor trace). It is seen that the composite RVE consists of layers with different microstructures, all belonging to the same 40CrNiMo phase. Consequently, a localization of plastic deformation is evident at the interfaces between columnar and equiaxial microstructures. This phenomenon is shown in greater detail in Figs. 3 a-h for the interfacial contact between columnar and equiaxial microstructure regions in the composite RVE.
