4. Conclusions This paper presented a numerical FEM investigation for the simulation of the welding process to obtain a butt joint made of a low-carbon steel. A Manual Metal Arc Welding was explicitly simulated by means of the “birth -and death” method and the thermal transient generated by the welding was simulated and compared with experimental measurements. The accuracy of such FEM simulation was demonstrated through a very good agreement between the numerical and experimental outcomes, thus highlighting the effectiveness of the proposed procedure.
