2.3. CFD modeling preparation and set up The modeling domain in this study refers to the research of Song et al. (2019). the size of the environment is influenced by the diameter of the rotor used. The simulation domain is a vertical Darrieus H Rotor wind turbine in a wind tunnel flowing with fluid. The geometry and dimensions of the environment can be seen in Fig 3. The meshing in this study is divided into hex-dominant tetrahedral and tetrahedral mesh. Hex dominant is used on the stator domain, and tetrahedral mesh on the rotor domain can be seen in Fig 4. In the simulation, applied proximity and curvature to accommodate the geometry of the turbine and HEV. The problems in this research solve by the commercial ANSYS Fluent software. In CFD, simulations that run in transient conditions are known as the Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equation (URANS). The inlet wind speed is 8 m/s with free stream and transient conditions. The turbine model in the rotating domain constantly rotates according to the applicable tip speed ratio. The four sides of the boundary are set as symmetry.
