- ESIS TC21 chairs Milos B. Djukic and Tom Depover, together with May Martin and Hisao Matsunaga, completed the special issue (SI) of Engineering Failure Analysis (EFA) journal entitled “Understanding Environmentally Hydrogen Assisted Cracking of Metals: Key Towards a Sustainable Future” ( LINK ). The SI Editorial: “Understanding environmentally hydrogen assisted cracking of metals: Key towards a sustainable future“ is also published ( LINK ). This special issue contains 35 selected papers presented at the 5th International Conference on Structural Integrity, ICSI 2023 ( LINK ), held in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, August 29–31, 2023 within the TC21 Thematic/Special Symposium: “Hydrogen Embrittlement of metals: Problems and solutions” with a round table and panel discussion ( LINK ), organized by Milos B. Djukic, Frank Cheng, Motomichi Koyama, Tom Depover, Antonio Alvaro and Emilio Martínez Pañeda. In addition to selected papers presented during ISCI 2023, several additional invited papers by hydrogen embrittlement experts are also included in this special issue. We hope this collection of 35 articles serves as a benchmark for the state of the art, representing a broad range of topics related to hydrogen embrittlement. Also, this SI can spark new research ideas by enabling the community to identify commonalities or research gaps in our current understanding and thereby accelerate progress toward technological solutions to the hydrogen embrittlement problem .
