Conclusions In the present paper the possible use of geopolymers plaster reinforced with sisal fibers to improve the mechanical performance of a masonry panel has been presented. At first the experimental results of mechanical tests on samples of geopolymer mortar reinforced with 2% (weight) sisal fibers have been numerically modelled assuming a Concrete Damage Plasticity model available in ABAQUS library to obtain the required information to be adopted in the subsequent analyses. Successively, the mechanical performance of a masonry panel with and without reinforcement has been determined considering two different masonry typologies and two different reinforcements: the standard reinforced plaster one and a sisal reinforced geopolymer plaster (0.03 m thickness and 2% sisal fibers). The obtained results, in terms of −Δ curves confirm the efficacy of the sisal reinforced geopolymer as reinforcement for masonry panels. The results are very interesting considering also that the sisal reinforced geopolymers are very effective also from a thermal and acoustical insulation point of view. This aspect, together with a wider experimental and numerical campaign, will be the topic of future works. References ABAQUS 2017, Dassault Systèmes®.
