Table 7 describes the failure modes and Figure 5 shows the modes of failure of the four tested beams. The control beam failed in pure flexural failure (Fig. 5 (a)), while the beam without anchorage failed by delamination of the concrete cover (Fig. 5 (b)). The beam with one layer of CFRP U-Wrap anchors failed by plate de-bonding, while the specimen with two layers of CFRP U-wrap anchors failed by sheet de-bonding that was followed by plate de-bonding and finally flexural failure. It is evident that the use of anchors greatly influenced the mode of failure of RC beams strengthened with externally bonded AA plates.
