Based on the analysis of known experimental results and results of the finite element modeling method, a simulation model of the gradual coalescence of two semi-elliptical surface cracks under cyclic loading is developed. According to the results of simulation modeling, the dominant factors influencing the change of the stress intensity factors (SIF) during the coalescence of surface cracks have been determined. A statistical mathematical model of the change of SIF in the coalescence zone of two identical semi-elliptical surface cracks is proposed. The regression dependence, which estimates the crack coalescence factors depending on its geometric dimensions, is obtained. The proposed statistical model is promising for survivability prediction taking into account the stage of coalescence of surface cracks. © 2022 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V. Introduction A significant part of metal structures is operated under the influence of irregular loads. For such structures, it is important both to assess the durability at the design stage and to determine the residual durability of structural elements with existing damage in the form of fatigue cracks, in particular surface cracks. Therefore, the urgent task is to develop methods for predicting the durability of structural elements with surface cracks. © e t o s b T a r h CC B C 1st Virtual International Conference “In service Damage of Materials: Diagnostics and Prediction” Mathematical model for estimating SIF K I during coalescence of two identical surface cracks Ivan Pidgurskyi*, Mykola Pidgurskyi, Petro Yasniy, Viktor Baranovskyi, Boris Shelestovskyi, Mykola Stashkiv Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University, 56 Ruska Street, Ternopil 46001, Ukraine , ,
