The resulting slip distributions for slip system 1 and slip system 4 are shown in Figure 6 side by side. Under shear loading, fibers tend to slip over each other which in turn leads to activation of the first slip system. On the other hand, the Schmid stress on transverse slip systems stay almost at zero level throughout the loading history and therefore these slip systems are not activated as exemplified by slip system 4 in Figure 6.

In order to assess the e ff ect of friction induced hardening mechanism, shear loading is combined with tensile loading. The resulting force-displacement curves for two di ff erent loading scenarios are shown in Figure 7.
