specimens: the peak cyclic stress is applied to the top material layer, built last, characterized by a uniform high density hatching microstructure. An additional observation from inspection of Fig. 2 is that the hatched regions are finely structured and of high density while gas pores may be observed especially in the contours of Type C specimens.
