is 31.05 MPa, Poison’s ratio is 0.5, stiff stratum depth is 5m, void ratio is 2.5 %, recompression index is 0.03, compression index is 0.3, pore water pressure parameter is 0.35. Figure 6 shows the footings distribution at the base of the building (the dimensions of the footings were calculated according to the standards of American code ACI 318M).

We selected a beam located in elevation 1 of the building, (the beam is in elevation 1, on the first floor over the selected footings shown in Fig. 6). We analyzed and designed the beam in 3 cases (these cases are an option within the program):  Case 1 without taking into account the effect of settlements;  Case 2 taking into account the effect of settlements � only;  Case 3 taking into account the effect of settlements � and � . The program performs the analysis and calculates the settlements ( � ) first, and then it repeats the analysis taking into account the effect of the settlements ( � ) to calculate the settlements ( � ). And then it performs the analysis taking into account the effect of ( � ) and ( � ) together. The results are shown in Table 3 where the designing load combination is 1.4* DEAD load pattern and SETTLEMENT load pattern. Table 3.
