This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0) Peer-review under responsibility of the scientific committee of the XXIIth Winter School on Continuous Media Mechanics” The research results of the dependence of the magnitude of plastic deformation on the rate of its flow using the example of processing materials by cutting titanium alloys are given in the paper. The process of plastic deformation in titanium alloys is the most interesting. Chip shrinkage characterizes the flow of plastic deformation. The influence of the feed rate on the shrinkage of the chips during turning of the titanium alloy ВТ6 (Russian State Standard GOST 19807-9) has been experimentally determined. © 2021 The Authors. Introduction The cutting process is a process of elastoplastic deformation, which is brought to failure in a strictly defined area (see Kugultinov, S.D. et al. (2006), Kugultinov, S.D. et al. (2008)). The nature of deformation and destruction in the cutting zone depends on the physical and mechanical properties of the material being processed, the characteristics of the cutting process and the parameters of the cutting tool. The evidence of the presence of plastic deformations during cutting is the change in the size of the chips in comparison with the parameters of the cut layer. This change, as well as the degree of plastic deformation, can be characterized by the amount of chip shrinkage. The research results of the dependence of the magnitude of plastic deformation on the rate of its flow using the example of processing materials by cutting titani m alloys ar giv in the paper. The pr cess of plastic def rmation in titan um alloy is the most int resting. Chip shrinkage charac erizes the flow f pl stic deformation. The influence of the feed rate on the shrinkage of the chips during turning of the titanium alloy ВТ6 (Russian Sta e Standard GOST 19807-9) has b e experimen ally determined. © 2021 The Au hors.
