The path of knowledge undertaken in the documentation of the structures, which are now in a sta te of ruin, are a imed at analyzing the superficial and structural conservative stateof thefortress. The surveyoperations were carriedout using the most recent digital instruments: laser scanner, aeria l photogrammetry andground photogrammetry. The resulting three-dimensionalmodel, highly reliable, was useful for carryingout analyzes on the structure, from morphological to diagnostic and structural ones. A careful mapping of the cracking framework was performed and through the analysis of the real basedmodels coming from therelief of the wa ll deformations; thecognitive overviewhas made it possible to clarify the state of structural conservationof the building. © 2020 The Authors. Introduction The study that is going to be presented is part of a research project whichpurpose is to understand the heritagevalue of the Verruca fortress and its sta te of conservation. To better evaluate these aspects, it was necessary to undertake a cognitive pa th that, through historical, morphological, diagnostic and structural investiga tions, was able to provide a Art Collections 2020, Safety Issue (ARCO 2020, SAFETY) Digital survey for the structural analysis of the Verruca fortress Giovanni Pancani a , Matteo Bigongiari a * a Department of Architecture (DIDA), University of Florence, Via della Mattonaia, 14 - 50121 Firenze (FI)
