3. Notch-induced fracture of cold drawn pearlitic steels: A Tribute to Masaccio The anisotropic fracture path with a stepped profile in cold drawn pearlitic steel (Toribio, 2018a) consisting of deflections and deviations from the initial transverse fracture path in mode I, resembles Masaccio’s Tribute Money (MTM) painting (Fig. 5) with its mountains at the background, so that the anisotropic fracture profile with crack path deflection can be classified as a MTM topography , the present section representing a Tribute to Masaccio.

4. Fatigue of cold drawn pearlitic steels: Following the wake of Antonio Machado The fatigue crack path in cold drawn pearlitic steels (Fig. 6) recalls the words of the Spanish poet Antonio Machado: “se hace camino al andar” , as there is no previous path, but the path is made as the crack grows (and such a path is influenced by the material anisotropy regarding fatigue resistance) as explained by Toribio (2018b).
