The variation of the longitudinal strains recorded by strain gauges versus displacement of the joint during the tensile loading for two specimens in comparison with different FE models is depicted in Fig. 8. For the FE results, the strain was measured in the centroid of the element. The plane stress and plane strain FE models showed similar results for measuring the longitudinal strain. However, in comparison with the 3D symmetric model, the 2D FE models were always resulted to lower values. It showed that the strain measurements in the 2D models for upper and lower adherents are not representative strain one can expect from the middle of the adherents. It should be mentioned that for the ZSP for the 2D FE model and 3D FE model resulted to different position 8.25 and 8.5 mm respectively. However, the strain variation shown in the present work is always calculated for the element corresponding the position of ZSP in the FE models. The results from the experiments showed however larger dissimilarity with the FE results.
