2.4. Flexural test Flexural tests on ref and ec specimens utilise the test standard ASTM D790 (ASTM D790-17 2017); dimensions of the specimens tested were 140x25x2 mm. Five specimens tested as per the test protocol; this standard utilises a three-point bending system as a simply supported beam. Figure 2a) shows the initial position of the flexural test setup. Specimen lays on two supports, and then the load is applied through a loading nose midway between these supports. The three-point bending system uses support span-to-depth ratio of 40:1. Figure 2b) shows the final position of the tested specimen before the failure. Equations 1 and equation 2 calculates the displacement-rate and limiting displacement used in this experiment, respectively. Equation 3, 4, and 5 uses the parameters from the experiments and specimen dimension to calculate the flexural strength, flexural strain and tangent modulus of elasticity, respectively.
