A c pact tension shear fixture is modeled and fabricated for the mixed mod fractur test. Co pact tension specimen were made fro wov n carbon fiber poxy t at was f bricated using hand layup. A detailed simple displacement tracking method was applied to measure the displacement of the crack and the crack propagation rate. © 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Introduction Studying the composite materials behavior before using them in the applications is essential to ensure that its failure is under control. Composites are used in the modern industries because they are stiff, strong and at the same time light. But if we compare them with metals they have lower fracture resistance and they break easier than metals. Therefore, it is i portant to study and learn about their fracture properties. To study fracture, groups of tests and measurements were made after t e increase of in the number of failure in parts made from composite. Fracture tests were then introduced along this path. Among the fracture tests, compact tension shear (CTS) testing is introduced to measure the mixed mode fracture of composites as well as metals [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. This test is a mechanism that determines the ability of composite materials in resisting fracture and crack growth under different conditions [6]. Also, it can be 1st Virtual Conference on Structural Integrity - VCSI1 Woven carbon fiber epoxy fracture testing Jamaloddin Jamali* , Sarah AlDrais, Fatmah Ibrahem, Nourah AlFoudari, Fethi Abbassi, Murat Demiral College of Engineering and Technology, American University of the Middle East, Kuwait Abstract In this work, the mixed mode fracture of woven carbon fiber composite is performed to measure the fracture force and to calculate the fracture toughness of the composite.
