5. Conclusions

A 3D numerical model for nitinol bar covered by a silicon coating is developed based on the MCA method for the numerical studying its mechanical behavior under a flexural test. The results show three stages of the coating fracture as well as a periodic pattern of the cracks at the lateral faces. The general character of the coating behavior is confirmed by experimental evidence. The difference in computational and experimental results shows the way for future works on improving the model assumptions.
