Understanding th causes and went wrong in previous accidents, is an essential step to tak corrective ac ons, to define strategies and safety plans. This study aims at performing a statistical analysis, by creating a database of rail accidents that happened in Po tu al in the years of 2014 and 2017. Th results will make it possible to understand the a cidents ’ crit factors, patterns, a d details. Portugal has one of the low st accident rates from Europe and the most common accident type is “accident with people triggered by railway rolling stock” . The results from this research can be added to other accidents historical registers, amplifying the existing data to support safety decision-makers. © 2019 The Autho s.
