4. Conclusion Based on the comparison of experimental data and calculated ratios, differences in weld dimensions in width and height of the weld reinforcement can be one of the serious factors determining the cold resistance of a welded joint of the VST. The dependences of the change in the deposited weld metal area on the structural composition of the HAZ metal with its strength characteristics are considered. The service life of welded joints of the VST is directly related to the weld deposit volume and structural composition of the HAZ. Thus, adjusting the volume of the deposited weld metal and, accordingly, the consumption of welding material during arc welding, which depends on the choice of a joint design and welding technology, the strength characteristics of welded joints could be improved and, thereby, significantly influence the service life of VST.
