This paper revisits the concept of change in crack propagation direction in cold drawn pearlitic steels and formulates an analogy or geometrical resemblance with the cubist painting by Pablo Picasso and the rayonist painting by Mijail Larionov and Natalia Goncharova.

2. Cold drawing of pearlitic steels

Fig 1a shows two photographs of a real manufacturing process of commercial prestressing wires by progressive ( multi-pass ) cold drawing, whereas Fig. 1b offers a scheme of a process in six passes with diameter reduction and Fig. 1c includes a 3D sketch of the afore-said multi-pass procedure in the factory.
