© 2019 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Peer-review under responsibility of the 6th International Conference “Fracture Mechanics of Materials and Structural Integrity” organizers. The reasons for the drill pipes failure as a result of interaction with formation water and killing fluids were analyzed. It was determined that the aggressiveness of killing fluids increases as a result of acid treatment of wells, which causes severe pitting corrosion. The main corrosive components of the killing fluids from the exploited wells determined by chemical analysis were chlorides. The determined residual life-time of the G105 drill pipe in the acidic killing fluid was only 16.65 days, indicating that their usage in acidic, highly mineralized killing fluids is unacceptable. © 2019 The Author(s). Most of the oil and gas fields in Ukraine are at the final stage of development. However, there is the urgent necessity of their maintainence and increasing the production of hydrocarbons. There are two ways to realize these tasks, namely: development of new oil and gas fields and intensification of production of hydrocarbons from operated wells. It should be noted that the maintenance and intensification of production of hydrocarbons is associated with various types of technological operations in the well, which are usually carried out using killing fluids. They are applied to prevent fluid overload and to ensure the preservation of the initial filtration and Most of the oil and gas fields in Ukraine are at the final stage of development.
