5. Fractography 5.1 Fractography of Charpy test

SEM images of Charpy test failed specimen are shown in Fig. 14. Different mode of fracture is observed in SF and CR material in longitudinal direction. Cleavage type (brittle) of fracture is observed for SF route material as compared to Quasi-cleavage (mixed mode – ductile + brittle) for CR material. Mixed mode of fracture in CR material displays more ductility in CR which leads to the higher impact value in longitudinal direction. Quasi cleavage type of fracture is present for both materials in transverse direction.
