than that of the semi-circular one, as the elastic stress concentration factor is higher for the v-shaped notch. However when evaluating the fatigue notch sensitivity given by � � � � � � � � , (4) which should be 1 for full notch sensitivity ( k f = k t ) , and 0 if the notch has no effect. It is seen that a notch sensitivity above 1 was obtained in the case of the semi-circular geometry, while in the case of the v-shaped notch the value is between 0 and 1 as expected. The results for fatigue notch factor and fatigue notch sensitivity factor for the different geometries are shown in table 3.

5. Discussion The analytical and numerical stress field was fitted at the maximum stress at the notch root, at the center of the specimen the accuracy of the models was measured, it showed the highest accuracy for unnotched geometry, and decreasing accuracy for smaller notch radius. However, the analytical model was developed for notches in infinite plates, and the effect of two notches interacting with each other is not accounted for, as noted by Lazzarin and Filippi (2006).
