4. Conclusion There are a large stock of arch structures still existing around the world. Most of them are facing high loads or seismic loads that were not properly considered in the design. For this reason, it is important to focus our attention on this topic. The aim of this work was to study the effect of irregularities that could not be avoided on arch structures. In particular, arches with different height of abutments and discontinuous arch thickness have been considered. The results from Limit analysis show effectively that the geometric irregularities modify the internal stress states of the arch . In conclusion, it has been observed that the β S1 /β ratio has a great impact for arch es with discontinuous thickness while the significant parameter for arches with non-uniform abutment height is H L / H.
