event). The flood caused severe damage to the streets, railway tracks and buildings in areas nearby the bridge. However, no evidence of damage was detected on the bridge. Consequently, after the flood event visual inspections were performed – revealing an intense debris accumulation (Fig. 5b) – together with field measurements of water depth with a stadia rod. The local measures on pier P05 – taken from the extrados of the foundation plinth – resulted in 5.5 m at the upstream side and 2.7 m at the downstream side.
