3. Conclusive remarks To fill some gaps of the current version of the Italian Guidelines on existing bridges, the Authors define three key areas to be investigated for the: accurate characterization of the geomorphological, geological context and geomechanical properties of the materials; identification and characterization of Recognized or Potential landslides; correct evaluation of the parameters needed to assess the Landslide Class of Attention. The investigation of the Diagnostic and the Geomorphological Significative Areas is mainly based on a desk study and allows to capitalize all the geomorphological and geological data already available. The investigation of the Relevant Area and the surrounding part of the Geomorphological Significative Area, mainly based on field work, allows to: a) refine the survey of the topographic surface characteristics and improve the characterization of the lithotechnical units; b) identify the presence or absence of Recognized or Potential landslides, and (if present) characterize the type of landslide; c) correctly evaluate primary and secondary
