Additionally, it was shown that a very simple discrete system – a linear oscillator – can also exhibit fracture delay effect when loaded with rectangular force pulses. This observation can serve as a motivation for establishing formal analogies between specimens with cracks and oscillators when fracture due to short pulse loads is considered: the cracked sample can be associated with some particular oscillator with calculated mass and spring stiffness.
