3.5. Interfacial microstructure test Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows the intermetallic compound (IMC) layer that formed between the dissimilar alloys (Zedan and Doos 2018), see Fig. 11. By increasing the electrode force from 1500 to 2400 N, the thickness of the intermetallic compound (IMC) layer decreases from 4.5- 2 μm. Hence, the strength of the weld joint increases from 2040 to 3210 N.
