3. Accurate assessment prioritization 3.1. The considered bridges
The initial dataset considered in this study comprises 88 bridges located in the Campania region, representing a wide range of structural configurations. All bridges were assessed in accordance with the current Italian Guidelines. Approximately one-fourth of the structures, mainly due to the combined effect of multiple factors including poor conservation conditions, were assigned a High Attention Class and, consequently, underwent an in-depth structural safety assessment (Level 4). Only a limited portion of the inventory 3% fall within the Low or Medium-Low Attention Classes, whereas 40% and 31% are classified as Medium and Medium-High, respectively. From this subset, only a few bridges featuring masonry arch and statically indeterminate (hyperstatic) systems were excluded, so the analysis focused on reinforced and prestressed concrete decks. The study also considered bridges with a deck width of approximately 8 m, typical of regional and provincial road networks, resulting in a final sample of 50 representative structures. Their main geometrical and typological characteristics, together with the Attention Class and the I D and I C values, are reported in Table 1.
