The first step consists of creating a database of haulage companies, so that they can be recalled in the subsequent step of creating the exceptional transport (ET). Once the carrier and the license plates of the vehicles used (tractor unit plus any trailer) have been defined, the route can be created by selecting the relevant road sections and the entry and exit interchanges. The geometric and weight characteristics of the ET must then be defined, namely vehicle length and width, axle spacing, contact patch dimensions, wheel spacing, and axle loads. If an authorization request includes, in addition to the main vehicle, backup vehicles, multiple records can be entered. Once the input data have been defined, the processing can be launched. This consists of retrieving all structures located between the entry and exit interchanges, both those under which the ET will pass and those over which the ET will pass. In the former case, geometric checks are performed to verify that the width and height of the ET do not interfere with the vertical and lateral clearances of the overpasses along the route; in the latter case, the calculation software developed by SINA (TES) is invoked, which performs all structural verifications. Once the analysis is launched, the interface displays the route on a map, where individual structures are located by means of waypoints. Each waypoint is assigned a color corresponding to the type of verification outcome: • Green: verification satisfied; • Yellow: verification satisfied with speed limitation; • Light orange: verification satisfied with speed limitation and isolated transit in any transverse position on the deck; • Dark orange: verification satisfied with reduced speed, isolated and centered transit; • Red: verification not satisfied, therefore transit of the ET on the structure is denied. In addition to the summary provided on the interactive map, the web interface also allows visualization of a synoptic table showing, for each structure, the following information: • Structure Code (SIOS);
• Structure type; • Structure name; • Chainage (pk);
• Result of the geometric analysis; • Result of the structural analysis.
Finally, it is possible to export an editable file, created ad hoc for each concessionaire, to be used as an authorization document, containing the vehicle characteristics (company, route, mass, license plates) and the analysis results, including any prescriptions to be adopted to ensure safe transit of the ET.
