4. Results and discussion 4.1. Chloride ingress

The results identify the coastal zone as the most vulnerable area in Veneto, due to the combined influence of higher temperatures and chloride exposure, which accelerates corrosion initiation. The mountain zone, affected mainly by de-icing salts, shows moderate vulnerability, while the inland zone exhibits the longest initiation times. In coastal areas, corrosion initiation time decreases by about 10% between RCP 2.6 and RCP 4.5 and by approximately 23% between RCP 2.6 and RCP 8.5. In mountain regions, the reduction is around 7% for RCP 4.5 and 16% for RCP 8.5 relative to RCP 2.6. Inland areas show decreases of roughly 8% and 18%, respectively. The results show that temperature has the strongest impact in coastal zones, where chlorides intensify deterioration. Mountain areas are less sensitive, while inland regions display intermediate behaviour. The spatial distribution of corrosion initiation times is illustrated in Figures 2, 3, and 4.
