As a result of this, the road surface has lowered and cracks have appeared, so the bridge has been temporarily closed to the road traffic. It’s been necessary to strengthen the lowered column and to make a safety evaluation, following Ministerial Decree no. 204/2022. 1. Classification of the structure and context Sant’Ansano bridge is located in Ponte a Moriano, a village under the administration of Lucca, Tuscany. It is a very important infrastructure for Lucca’s Province road network. The bridge is at Km 0+150 of S.P.2 road, named “Lodovica”, over Serchio river, strategically linking the Lucca plain to Serchio Valley and Garfagnana. It’s an historical bridge of five arches characterized by a brick and stone built supporting structure, typical of Lucca’s country infrastructural engineering (Fig.1).
