The friction tests show that the coefficient of friction is slightly lower for the SP at the beginning of the test compared to the REF. The difference is smaller for the longer duration tests (Fig. 18). An example of the wear trace after 340,000 cycles of testing is shown in Fig. 19. Micro craters, typical of micropitting, are observed at the top of the turning grooves for the REF cylinder, while only a few polishing marks are seen at the top of the grooves for the SP cylinder.
