Figure 8 : comparison of self-heating curves between base material, charged coated material and uncharged coated material

4. Conclusion In conclusion, the analysis of the self-heating curves has highlighted the significant impact of hydrogen on the thermomechanical behavior of grade 12.9 martensitic steel, which is particularly sensitive in a marine environment. Although the coating exhibits substantial energy dissipation, hydrogen charging alters the energy-dissipation mechanism which confirms its influence on the self-heating phenomenon. These results demonstrate the applicability of the self-heating method for evaluating the effect of hydrogen on fatigue properties of HSS steel. Further work will aim to separate and quantify the individual impacts of hydrogen and of the coating on dissipated energy by including a configuration in which the material is hydrogen-charged without coating. Finally, the fatigue properties of the material, with and without hydrogen, will be determined from self-heating curves using the two scales probabilistic model. 5.
