There is a lengthwise crack of length, a, in portion, D 2 D 4 , of the bar (Fig. 1). This crack is located in a vertical plane longitudinally to the bar. There is a notch in the right crack arm (therefore, this crack arm is free of stresses). Determination of the SERR, G , for the crack passes through the following steps. First, the bar curvatures and the coordinates of the neutral axis are derived.
