Keywords: Longitudinal crack; Dynamic loading; Functionally graded frame; Support conditions 1. Introduction The structures used in the engineering are known by their diversity with respect to geometrical shape, external loadings and supporting conditions. The basic idea underlining the current article is to evaluate the influence of the type of supporting conditions on the longitudinal fracture in functionally graded frames which are subjected to periodic dynamic loadings. We deal here with functionally graded frames since functionally graded materials are emerging as a very attractive class of structural materials with certain applications in the modern engineering (Alkunte et al. (2023), Reichardt et al. (2020), Sanjeeviprakash et al. (2023), Teacher and Velu (2024)). One of the main disadvantages of Abstract The current article studies functionally graded load-carrying single bay frames with longitudinal crack under periodic dynamic loading. Frames with three types of supporting conditions (three links, two links and a pined support, and two links and a fixed support) are explored here. The principal aim is to evaluate the influence of the supporting conditions on longitudinal fracture in frames when the latter are acted upon by periodic dynamic loading induced by a motor installed on the horizontal member of frames. The maximum and the minimum strain energy release rates (SERR) are derived. The results indicate that the supporting conditions have significant influence on the longitudinal fracture in frames under periodic dynamic load. © 2026 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V.
